Milani Metallic Liquid Lipstick Review

milani metallic liquid lipstick flatlay

I’ve been wanting to try a metallic lip pretty much since I heard that they were a thing. When I found out that Milani was rereleasing their metallic liquid lipsticks, I knew I wanted to try them out. Since I knew that my local Walgreens carried the Milani brand, I just stopped by and picked up a few colors. At this point in time, a lot of the major brands have a metallic lip in their collection—Colourpop, Too Faced, Urban Decay, Jouer, Kylie Cosmetics, Dose, etc. Because, I wasn’t sure how well I’d like them—and because Milani is a good drugstore brand—I decided to go drugstore for my first foray into metallic lips.

At first glance, the packaging appears fairly simple but effective. The tubes are square and long, something I quite like as this makes it easy to differentiate them from other liquid lipsticks I own. I also like that two of the sides are clear which makes it easy to see the color.

Getting into the product themselves, Milani claims that these metallic liquid lipsticks can last for up to 16 hours. And, while I admit I haven’t tested that claim, they are long lasting. I wore each of the three shades for several hours and ate and drank while wearing them. And I was pretty impressed. Not only do they dry down to a matte pretty quickly with no gritty feeling, but they also are almost completely transfer-proof! Who doesn’t love that in a lip product, particularly a sparkly one? Perhaps the only downside of these liquid lipsticks is that they can highlight the lines of your lips if they’re already dry or chapped prior to application.

Chromatic Addict (01) was the lightest shade that I picked up. This was a shade that I really wanted to try out so I was a little disappointed when it turned out to be lighter than I’d thought. It’s a gorgeous color—think liquid gold—but I’m afraid it’s a little light for my skin tone. I think it might work well as a layering color though. This shade is also the one that I found had the most amount of transfer. This isn’t to say that there was a ton, but there was a good deal more transfer on my napkin when compared to the other two shades. I also thought it lasted the shortest amount of time.

Prismatic Touch (12) is a gorgeous light, metallic neutral pink. I can definitely see myself getting a ton of use out of this color. I mean, it’s essentially a shimmery rose pink which just screams Spring to me (I know it’s currently only February, but give it a few months). It’s similar to Chromatic Addict in that it’s also a light shade but I think that for me it’s a much more wearable shade. And bonus, I’ve worn this shade several times and have found it to have the least amount of transfer of the three. Score!

Matterialistic (02) was actually the first liquid lipstick that I picked up of these three and I was surprised because it was much darker than I initially anticipated. But I don’t hate it! It’s a nice brown and the metallic aspect gives it some reddish undertones in certain light. I found that this shade had just slightly more transfer than Prismatic Touch but the color nevertheless held up very well after a meal. You guys know I love me a nice dark lip and I think this one strikes a perfect balance in the middle.

Overall, I love these liquid lipsticks and wouldn’t mind picking up a few more shades to try next time I’m in Walgreens. If you’re looking to jump on the metallic lip bandwagon but don’t quite have the budget to splurge for one by a higher end brand, then I definitely recommend Milani. It’s one of my favorite drugstore brands and they’ve been doing a lot of good things lately.

If you’re all about the metallic lip, what’s your favorite color and/or brand?

  1. I’m really enjoying the theme/design of your web site.

Do you ever run into any browser compatibility problems? A number of my blog audience have complained about my site not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Opera.
Do you have any solutions to help fix this problem?
